Color is a complex phenomenon that makes each person's experience of color distinct. As a result, we often have difficulty in communicating about color. This website is partially dedicated to overcoming this by defining color terminology using the COLORCUBE as the standard model for visualizing color concepts. Since we do not claim to be the utmost authorities on color, we invite you to challenge and debate our statements about the dimensions of color. Description: Understand luminance by imagining a color wheel stretched to fit a cubic form. This quality of color is tightly related to value but creates a different shape within the same color space. Inside the COLORCUBE: Graphs of constant luminance form uneven planes of color connecting the outside of the color space to a specific gray value. They resemble bowtie shapes when viewed from the side. Behaviour: As luminance increases, the planes of color move from black to white. Alternate terms: Brightness
