Color is a complex phenomenon that makes each person's experience of color distinct. As a result, we often have difficulty in communicating about color. This website is partially dedicated to overcoming this by defining color terminology using the COLORCUBE as the standard model for visualizing color concepts. Since we do not claim to be the utmost authorities on color, we invite you to challenge and debate our statements about the dimensions of color. Description: Saturation is similar to chroma in that a color is said to be more saturated if very little gray is present. While there are distinct differences between the two dimensions, suffice to say that a color space's outer edges will house the most saturated colors. Inside the COLORCUBE: Graphs of constant saturation appear as boxes and rectangles that surround middle gray. Behaviour: As saturation increases, colors move away from the center of the COLORCUBE. Alternate terms: Fullness, Richness, Depth, Boldness Examples: Wax crayons, ripe berries |
